What We Believe

At Hope Corner Church, we take church life seriously.  Belonging to a local church is not a pastime or a hobby, it is a glorious privilege and destiny!  For the sake of unity and harmony, it is essential that anyone thinking about joining themselves to our church fully understands the Core Values, identifies with the Purpose Statement, agrees with the Statement of Faith, and accepts the Hope Corner Church Partnership Covenant.

We offer an introductory course which explains in more detail our core values and vision. If you would like further information, don’t hesitate to contact us.

What we Believe

Hope Corner Church is a community focused church, affiliated to the Assemblies of God, and a member of the Evangelical Alliance.  We accept their doctrinal statements of faith as a basis for unity.  Recognising that some people, especially new Christians, may not be familiar with some of the broader theological issues, we have confined our doctrinal statement to what we consider to be the essential basic tenets of Christian belief.  For clarity, these fundamental truths are stated in simple terms rather than in a list of scripture references.

THE BIBLE

The sole basis of our belief is the Bible, comprising the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments.  We believe that the Scripture in its entirety originated with God and that it is infallible and inerrant in the original manuscripts.  They are the unique, full and final authority on all matters of faith and practice.

GOD

There is One true God, eternally existing in three persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit, each of Whom possesses equally all the attributes of deity and the characteristics of personality.

JESUS CHRIST

Jesus Christ is the eternal second Person of the Trinity who was united forever with a true human nature by a miraculous conception and virgin birth.  He lived a life of perfect obedience to the Father and voluntarily atoned for the sins of mankind by dying on the cross as their substitute, thus satisfying Divine justice and accomplishing salvation for all who trust in Him alone.  He rose from the dead in the same body, though glorified, in which He lived and died.  He ascended into heaven and sat down at the right hand of the Father, where He, the only Mediator between God and man, continually makes intercession for His own.  He shall come back again to earth, personally and visibly, to consummate history and the eternal plan of God.

THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity and was sent into the world by the Father and the Son to apply to mankind the saving work of Christ.  He enlightens the minds of sinners, awakens in them a recognition of their need of a Saviour and regenerates them. At the point of salvation, He permanently indwells every believer to become the source of assurance, strength and wisdom.  The Holy Spirit guides believers in understanding and applying

Scripture.

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit endows Christians for powerful witness and supernatural gifts which build up the body of Christ.  Hope Corner Church believes that these gifts are still for today.

SALVATION

Originally created to have fellowship with God, man defied God and chose to go his own way.  Thus man was alienated from God and suffered the corruption of his nature, rendering him unable to please God.  The fall took place at the beginning of human history and all individuals since have suffered these consequences and are in need of the saving Grace of God.  The Salvation of mankind then, is wholly a work of God’s Grace and cannot be gained through human works or goodness.  Forgiveness must be personally received through repentance of sin and faith in the sacrifice of Jesus.  When God begins a saving work in any person, He will continue it until completion.

HUMAN DESTINY

Death seals the eternal destiny of each person.  For all mankind there will be a resurrection of the body into the spiritual world and a judgement that will decide the fate of each individual.  Those who reject the sacrifice of Jesus will be separated from God eternally.  God’s judgement will reveal His justice.  Believers will be received into God’s eternal presence and will be rewarded for serving Him in this life.  Our eternal future is set by how we respond to Christ in this life.  Heaven and Hell are real places of existence.

THE CHURCH

There is one true Church universal, comprised of all those who acknowledge Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.  Wherever God’s people meet and devote themselves to worship, prayer, teaching of the Word, observance of baptism and communion, fellowship and service to the body, there is the expression of the local church.  Under the oversight of its leaders, believers are to work together in love and unity, intent on the one purpose of glorifying Christ.
